NAME: Kristin Boese AGE: 29 HOME: Berlin, Gemany YEARS KITING: 5 HOW DID YOU GET INTO KITESURFING? I was a windsurf instructor in the north of gemany and was really into that sport back than until I met a kitesurf instructor. He told me all those great things about kitesurfing and finally gave me a kite to try. From this moment on I never touched a windsurfboard anymore…
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT KITESURFING? It really makes you feel free… you ride over the water without any noise and you can jump and fly and impress… all in one… HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE KITESURFING TO PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS? It is a watersport where you hold a huge play-kite in your hands and get pulled over the water by it with a little board under your feet. It is very easy to learn and the perfect work out for your whole body… HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU BECAME PKRA WORLD CHAMPION? Oh, I felt great! I had always dreamed about it, but
never thought that this dream would actually come true. And so it actually kind
of felt like I was dreaming! HOW HAVE THE EVENTS BEEN FOR YOU THIS YEAR? This year was a very long year and so the events have actually been a bit tiring too. I had some very good events in the beginning, won 4 in a row. Than I got insured and had a bit of a hard time and not so fun events with it too… But all in all it was good and I had fun doing the events on the PKRA tour and to be with all the riders. TELL US ABOUT A KITE EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD; Well, the best kite experience I ever had was the CMIO (Cindy Mosey Island Odyssey) . It was the first ever only girls kite event and something really special for me. 24 girls on Fiji, with no warm water, no luxury at all but with a lot of new culture and experiences… something I will never forget and something I would always do again. Girls, you have to come and join next year! WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SIZE KITE? My favorite kite is the 9 m waroo pro. It has such a big range that I can ride it most of the times… I also like the 11m warro pro though.. sometimes it is nice to practise in light winds.. WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU LIKE IN A BOARD? I like wide boards, because you don’t have much
trouble in gusty winds and also they make hard landings easier. Also I like
boards with a little flex, it is better for my knees. WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU IN LIFE? To have time to relax, to reflect and to actually realise what I am doing… ![]() WHATS ESSENSIALS DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR BAG? My mac book, my I Pod, always a good book and some whole weed bread from Germany… MUST HAVE BEAUTY PRODUCT: Suncream… not much more than that really… MONEY OR LIFESTYLE? Lyfestyle DREAM WHEELS? Sorry, but I don’t understand that one… IS THERE ANYONE WHO HAS HELPED YOU GET WHERE YOU ARE TODAY? Oh, yes of course, there are soooo many people that have helped me… my mum, my boyfriend, all my sponsors from the first day till today… best kiteboarding, sven anton, maui magic, LTU… I would never bee where I am right now without them! TIPS FOR GIRLS GETTING INTO THE SPORT: Don’ let your boyfriend teach you (most of the times does not work) but book lessons in a good kitecenter (perfect if you can finde a female instructor!) get all the tips and help you need to get on the board and only continue if you really liked your first experiences. From then on just be motivated and have fun, try new things and impove… |
